Have fun exploring various dynamic drawing techniques in a supportive and friendly evening class. Work with an experienced drawing tutor to develop your draughtsmanship, creativity and range – break out of your comfort zones, old habits and explore new ways to make marks, use tone to create depth and energy in your drawings. Or use the class to bring back the habit of regularly drawing & sketching.

In this initial five week course all classes will take place at Wivenhoe Printworks in the Business Centre and will involve drawing lively and engaging still life subjects. We will explore a range of dynamic exercises such as drawing in the dark, scaling-up, gestural and mass drawing. We will explore exercises and practices by great drawing teachers and artists such as Kimon Nicholaides, Betty Edwards, Durer and Matisse as well as tried and tested art-school classics. All the exercises will be fun, challenging and will extend and develop your skills.

The aim is to extend the course beyond the initial 6 weeks, with participants signing up in 5/6-weekly blocks. A longer-term aim will be to develop occasional or additional life classes and outdoor on-location sketching.

This course/class is generally aimed at the more experienced artist who is keen to undertake exciting and challenging drawing exercises and subjects. You’ll definitely not be studying vases of flowers, bowl of fruit or drawing from photos, but any level of experience is welcome if you are happy to be challenged and keen to extend yourself!

Covid 19 Measures: Maximum of 6 people in the class plus tutor. We have extraction for safe ventilation of the workspace, all surfaces disinfected before and after sessions and the tutor works in education so is subject to twice-weekly LFT tests.
